Hello, I teach a class called "Math Crafts" at Henkle Middle
School. During the course of the school year, students engage
in hands-on projects while learning important math concepts like
measurement, geometry, patterns, and
problem-solving.
This year we have spent a few weeks examining the Golden Ration in
nature. Below is a student project demonstrating the spirals
found in Ponderosa Pine Cones. The number of clockwise and
counterclockwise spirals are two consecutive Fibonacci numbers,
which of course are close approximates of the Golden Ratio.
Check out the image gallery for some more views of our past
projects.
