Because our district has traditionally had to close for a few days each year due to inclement weather conditions, we began building snow days into our school calendar a few years ago. These "built-in snow days" allow us to plan with more accuracy for end-of-the-year activities such as high school graduation and the last day of school, allowing a little flexibility in the middle of the year without negatively impacting the end.
The 2011-2012 school calendar has two "snow days" scheduled into it (on March 16 and May 25). If there are no school days missed due to snow or other reasons before those dates, there will be no school on those days. If school days are missed due to snow (or other unforeseen circumstances) before then, then those will become regular school days to make up for those missed. If more than two days are missed due to snow, days missed to could be added to the end of the school year in June to create 180 days of school, potentially having an impact on the ending day for school. Students and parents should be aware of possible changes in these school/no school days when planning trips or vacations.

When does school begin and end? The first day of school is August 31, 2011. The final day of school is June 13, 2012. Graduation day for seniors at CHS is June 9, 2011 at 11 am. See a related FAQ about Built-in Snow days to see how the June dates could change based on winter weather events. When are vacations and early releases? This year continues the near-weekly early release for staff development on Wednesdays at 1:30 at Whitson Elementary and 1:40 at Henkle Middle School and Columbia High. Thanksgiving Break is November 24 & 25 (with a 12:05 release from school on November 23) Winter Vacation is December 19 through January 2. Spring Break runs from April 2 through April 6. Board meetings are usually held on the third Wednesday of the month, rotating their location among our three school buildings, and meeting in the district office over the summer months. If you know the name of
the person you want to contact, you may be able to do so using their
first name and last name with their email ending using the standard
approach below:
